Kilsan Hollow Wall Brick Application Guide

1. Surface Preparation: The application surface must be clean, smooth, dust-free, and structurally sound. If necessary, levels should be established on the floor to ensure evenness.
2. Mortar Preparation: Masonry mortar (a mixture of cement, lime, sand, and water) or pre-bagged masonry mortars should be prepared according to the manufacturer's instructions. The consistency of the mortar should be adjusted based on the brick's absorbency.
3. First Course: The starting point of the wall is determined, and the first course is laid on a mortar bed, leveled and plumbed. Corner beginnings and door/window openings should be accurately planned at this stage.
4. Brick Laying: Bricks are placed on the mortar bed and gently tapped with a rubber mallet to ensure they are level and plumb. Joint gaps of approximately 1-1.5 cm thickness should be left between bricks. A staggered laying technique (half-brick or 1/3 brick offset) should be used for each course.
5. Joint Filling: After laying the bricks, the joint gaps are filled with mortar and smoothed with a jointing trowel. Smooth and even joints are crucial for both aesthetics and durability.
6. Vertical Connections: Especially in long walls and corner junctions, vertical reinforcements (steel bars) can be used to increase wall stability.
7. Wall Completion: In the final course of the wall, any gaps are filled with mortar, and the top surface is finished smoothly.
8. Curing: Especially in hot and dry weather, it is recommended to cure the wall by lightly watering it at intervals to allow the mortar to achieve sufficient strength.

• Storage: Bricks should be stored palletized on a flat and stable surface, protected from rain, snow, and excessive moisture. Avoid stacking too high.
• Handling and Transportation: Take care not to drop or impact bricks during transportation. There is a risk of breakage at corners or edges. Use gloves if necessary.
• Weather Conditions: Avoid applying in extremely hot, cold, or windy weather. Special precautions should be taken in freezing conditions for exterior applications.
• Mortar Quality: The quality of the mortar used is critical for the overall strength and performance of the wall. Mortar ratios and preparation instructions must be meticulously followed.
